In the quiet corridors of life, on July 22, 2025, we lost a brilliant light. Alexa Renee Miller, born in Cincinnati on June 3, 2008, left this world far too soon, but not without leaving an undeniable mark on the hearts of those who knew her.
At just 17, Alexa was preparing for her senior year at Lakota West High School—a chapter she looked forward to with ambition and resolve. Her time in school included her involvement in HOSA, where she advanced to the state level in her sophomore year and narrowly missed returning as a junior. Her determination and drive stood out, but what truly defined Alexa was her unwavering loyalty and the depth of her love for those around her.
Alexa was both soft and strong—fierce when she needed to be, tender when it mattered most. She was a 'mama bear' to her people, the kind of friend who stood beside you no matter the storm. Her protective instinct was immediate and unapologetic—she never hesitated to speak up, step in, or stand her ground. And while she could come off strong-willed or intense, it was always in defense of someone she loved. Her loyalty wasn’t quiet—it was loud, bold, and worn on her sleeve.
Behind that grit was a heart that carried more than its share. Even during her own struggles, she was the first to notice someone else’s pain and offer support. She had a way of making others feel safe, seen, and fiercely cared for. That combination of strength and softness defined who she was: someone who could take a hit if it meant shielding someone else from one.
There was a quiet wisdom to Alexa, like she’d lived more than her years. She carried burdens far too big for someone so young, yet she did so with grace and grit. She loved hard. She stood firm. And she gave more than most ever knew.
She leaves behind a world forever changed by her presence and a family who loved her deeply: Her mother, Angela; her father, Nicholas; her twin sister, Isabelle; her brother, Ryan; her stepmother, Heather; her stepfather, Nicholas, stepsisters, Sam and Emma; and stepbrother, Gabe. Also grieving her loss are her extended family—Aunt Shelly, Uncle Brian, cousins Piper and Kinsley; Aunt Julia, Uncle Scott, cousins Evelyn and Sloan; Aunt Stacy; Uncle Mike and Aunt Lauren; Uncle Nick and Aunt Heather and her grandparents: Peg (Mimi), Jake (Poppy), Jim, Laura, Grandma Pat, Mike, Grandpa Terry, and Debbie.
Though her time with us was painfully short, Alexa’s legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely, the loyalty she showed so fiercely, and the light she brought into every room. May we carry her spirit forward—with a little more courage, a little more compassion, and a lot more love.
Rest easy, Alexa. Your light may be out of sight, but it burns on in all of us.
