Barbara Rose Apking

January 2, 1931 — November 3, 2025

Cincinnati

Barbara R Apking, 94, beloved daughter of the late Willard and Rose (Link) Apking, passed away on November 3, 2025. Barb lived a full life and was truly a remarkable woman. Throughout the years, many have paid tribute to Barb. From the late Mary Joan Goddard - friend, neighbor – “Barb was a quiet giver, always helping where she saw need without seeking recognition. She was kind, loving, generous, and compassionate—a truly good friend.” A former colleague, Ruth Barry RN, described her as “an exceptional boss, known for her loyalty, compassion, and generosity.” Among her peers from Mount Notre Dame, “she was considered humble, unassuming, and generous.”

Barb grew up in Carthage, attended St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School and Mount Notre Dame, and graduated from the College of Mount St. Joesph - Good Samaritan Hospital Unit. After graduation, she worked in nearly every department at the hospital, managing areas such as hematology, surgery, psychiatry, rehab, coronary care, ICU, and the emergency department. Upon retiring as a hospital employee, Barb returned as an active volunteer, contributing to the volunteer office, the College of Nursing, and the Good Samaritan Foundation. Volunteer staff noted her tireless dedication during her weekly shifts. She remained devoted to Good Samaritan Hospital, volunteering there until 2020.

Outside of her service to others, she truly loved life, cherishing time with family and friends - whether gathering for dinners, enjoying walks, or going on vacations. Her passion for travel took her to many places with various groups, and before visiting each region, one group would attend a cooking class inspired by the local cuisine.

She looked forward to her monthly lunches with her Mount Notre Dame 1949 classmates, often providing transportation for those who could no longer drive. Barb was dedicated to fitness, walking 5 miles every other day and attending water aerobics at Twin Tower on alternate days. She enjoyed gardening and belonged to the Carthage gardening club.

Barb’s Legacy is one of service, kindness and enduring impact. She will be deeply missed and remembered by the countless lives she touched.

Barbara passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025 at age 94.
