Barbara Jean Carstens

Barbara Jean Carstens, beloved wife of the late Mark Carstens. Loving mother of Michael Jordan, Erin (Kelly Donahoo) Jordan, and Elizabeth (Douglas) Byrd. Devoted grandmother to 9 grandchildren. Loving sister of Robert Smithson, Ronald Smithson (Deceased), Mary Lou Smith, Catherine Gable, Richard Smithson (Deceased), Raymond Smithson, and Marcia Goyette. Passed away July 19, 2022, at the age of 73.

Barbara was a graduate of North College Hill High School in 1967, earned a Bachelor of Science from Miami University in 1971, and earned a Masters of Education from the University of Cincinnati in 2006. Barbara was passionate about science education dedicating her over 30 year career to teaching science at Deer Park and Butler Tech high schools. Barbara enjoyed bowling, gardening, traveling, and above all spending time with her family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Hodapp Funeral Home 8815 Cincinnati-Columbus Rd. (Rt. 42) West Chester, OH 45069 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
