Barb Van Scoy, a cherished member of her community and beloved matriarch, peacefully passed away on July 23, 2025, her 89th birthday. Born on July 23, 1936, Barb dedicated much of her life to service, embodying kindness, generosity, and an unwavering spirit of involvement.
A proud member of the Grange for 70 years, Barb contributed tirelessly in various roles, earning the honor of being named the 1970 National Grange Young Couple of the Year. Her commitment extended beyond the Grange, as she actively participated in local organizations such as 4H, church groups, and the local food pantry, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her efforts were instrumental in helping organize numerous ladies' church group activities, from bake sales to rummage sales and outreach programs for those in need.
Barb's love for baking was a source of joy for her family and friends, particularly her famous sugar cookie cut-outs made from a recipe handed down through generations. These cookies became a cherished tradition at Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings, a testament to her nurturing spirit and the warmth she brought to every celebration.
Barb's legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Dooley, and Bonnie's husband Joe ; her son Brad Dwelle, and Brad's wife, Sherry; her son, Bert Dwelle, and Bert's wife, Jane; her sister, Karen Reed; five cherished grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Ruth Thomas, brothers Melvin and Merle, sister Beverly, and husband Ralph. Barbara Van Scoy leaves behind a lasting impact, not only through her deeds but also through the love she fostered within her family and community. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
