Bernard G. Koenig of Evendale aged 93 passed away on September 23rd. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Woebkenberg Koenig, siblings. Paul Koenig, Mary Ann Koenig Mullucey and Tom Koenig. He is survived by his children David Koenig (Cheryl) of Toledo, Kathryn Uetrecht (David) of Springdale and Julie Shouse (Garry) of Milford and his close companion, Peggy Bachmann. He is also survived by grandchildren Brett Uetrecht, Kelly (Uetrecht) Heis, Bailey Uetrecht, Cara (Uetrecht) Van Horn, Joshua Shouse, Kyle Shouse, Lauren Shouse, Paige (Koenig) Hill, Claire (Koenig) Goodin and Scott Koenig, 11 great grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. Ben was a lifelong member of St. James of the Valley parish in Wyoming and was active member at St. Patrick’s #1747 Knights of Columbus. Ben continued the Woebkenberg family tradition and along with his nephew, Michael Woebkenberg, prepared the St. Rita’s Turtle Soup for the festival. After serving as a Marine in Korea, Ben spent his entire career as a milkman. After retiring from Meyer Dairy, he worked at Sharon Woods greeting visitors for almost two decades. He proudly flew the American and USMC flag in his front yard, at any house he owned. With all the contacts he made and people he met delivering milk and working at Sharon Woods, it was “normal” to be out with friends or family and he would undoubtedly see someone he knew and would walk up to talk to them to chat. Visitation will take place at the Hodapp Funeral Home 7401 Vine St., Carthage, Tuesday, October 1st from 9AM until 10:30AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. James of the Valley 411 Springfield Pike, Wyoming, at 11AM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to St. Rita’s School for the Deaf. Condolences to hodappfuneralhome.com
