Bridget M. Rakel (Betty) nee Quinn beloved wife of the late Paul G. Rakel, Sr. Devoted mother of Patricia (Jeffrey) Wolf, Paul Jr. (Lisa) Rakel, Pamela (Kevin) Huxel, Paula (Jeffrey) Cocola, and Patrice (Matthew) Croci. Loving Grandmother to Audra (Jay) Roden, Karla (Michael) Pierce, Jeffrey Jr. (Rachel) Wolf, Benjamin (Caitlin) Huxel, Heather (Ryan) Johnson, Alison (Kirti) Sapra, Amanda (Stephen) Spreen, Stephanie (Damon) Roa, Bayley and Sydney Cocola, and Sophia, Cecilia, and Cameron Croci. Also blessed with 17 Great-grandchilden. Sister of Matthew (Susan) Quinn, Michael (Lorraine) Quinn, June (the late Ray) Kowalski, Patricia (Richie) Thompson, Hugh (Christine) Quinn, and the late Kathleen Brennan.
Sister-in-law of Fran Rakel and Jo Ann Farmer. Also survived by other family and friends. Passed away peacefully at Hospice of Cincinnati on May 24th, 2023 at the age of 90.
Betty was born on April 22, 1933 in Longford County, Ireland. She came to America by ship when she was 17.
Arriving in New York City on February 14th, 1951. She met Paul, who was in the Coast Guard stationed at Floyd Bennett Field, at a CSO dance in 1953. They were married on May 8th, 1954 in Rockaway, New York. Paul was from Cincinnati and when his tour was complete from the Coast Guard, they came to live and raise their family in Cincinnati. Betty worked 25 years at Lazarus Macy's. She spent her retired years enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's various activities. She enjoyed reading books, playing cards, going to the movies, gardening, and life itself. She was a beautiful soul and will be missed by everyone she touched. Her Celebration of Life will be held at St. Susanna Catholic Church, 616 Reading Rd., Mason, OH 45040 on Thursday, June 8th, 2023. Visitation is from 10:00 A.M. until time of Mass at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of Cincinnati, P.O. Box 633597, Cincinnati, OH 45263-3597.
