Brother Allan Schmitz, OFM, Archivist for the Franciscan Friars of St. John the Baptist Province in Cincinnati, died Friday, Feb. 14, at the age of 63. A native of Marysville, Kansas, he was the son of the late John and Rosemary (Roswarski) Schmitz of Lafayette, Ind. Brother Schmitz studied accounting and was a dental technician before entering religious life. After taking final vows as a friar in 1990, he ministered with the homeless in Dayton, as spiritual advisor with Catholic Cursillo in Cincinnati, as a house guardian in Pittsburgh, and in friar formation before joining the Archives in 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald, and is survived by a sister, Susan, brothers John (Judi), James and Douglas (Kathy), and sister-in-law Sheri, all of Lafayette, Ind., as well as nine nieces and nephews. Visitation for Br. Schmitz is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at St. Clement Church in St. Bernard, Ohio, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. Interment is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at St. Mary Cemetery in St. Bernard.
