Carol Ann (McKenzie) Born passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at the age of 88. Her beloved husband of 56 years, Gilbert “Gil” Born, died just nine days earlier, on July 10, 2026.

Carol was born on September 2, 1937 to Wilbur and Hilda (Eveslage) McKenzie in Cincinnati, Ohio. The eldest of five children, she grew up in Greenhills, attended St. Vivian’s, and graduated from Greenhills High School in 1955. After the death of her father when she was 14, Carol worked to help support her family, a responsibility that reflected the determination and quiet strength she carried throughout her life.

Carol went on to attend evening college at the University of Cincinnati, earning a degree in Psychology and Sociology, and later completed an MBA in Operations Management. Her professional life was remarkable, especially for the era in which it began, as her career path defied traditional expectations for women. Long before computers were commonplace, Carol entered the technology field as a keypunch operator at General Electric. Quiet and unassuming by nature, Carol’s exceptional intellect enabled her to advance along with the emerging field of information technology into computer programming, systems analysis, application design, and project management. After GE, Carol worked at Control Data Corporation, NCR Microelectronics Division, and Structural Dynamics Research Corporation, where she remained until her retirement in 1997.

Carol is remembered as kind, generous, gracious and humble, with a charming, dry wit. She and Gil shared a full and devoted life together. They lived in Clifton and shared interests in world travel, gardening, landscaping, and transforming their property to support native plants and wildlife, evident particularly in Carol’s love of frogs and birds. They loved the arts and were also dedicated fans of the Cincinnati Reds.

Carol was preceded in death by her two brothers, John (Mary) McKenzie and Jim (Betsy) McKenzie. She is survived by her two sisters, Mary Ann (late Tom) Drahman and Judy (late Ron) Regenhold, along with many nieces and nephews.

To celebrate Carol and Gil, all are invited to a memorial program and casual luncheon to be held on Friday, August 14 at 12noon at Clovernook Country Club, 2035 W. Galbraith Rd, Cincinnati 45239. The burial will take place preceding this event, at Spring Grove Cemetery at 11am.

One of Carol and Gil’s lasting legacies is the Carol and Gil Born Scholarship Fund for Women in Technology, established to support female students with financial need who are pursuing higher education in Information Technology.
