Dr. Claire Esselman, sister of the late Joann (Howard) Rottinghaus, the late Hubert (Loretta) Esselman and Jack (late Melanie) Esselman, dear aunt of 13 nieces and nephews passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Claire was a devoted nurse and educator. She received her RN diploma from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in 1957, a B.S. and M. Ed. from Xavier in 1966 & 1969 respectively. From the University of Cincinnati, she received an M.S in Nursing in 1976 and her Doctorate of Education in 1986. She was also a published author, contributing articles to various nursing and educational journals. Claire received many honors and awards during her forty year nursing career, and in 2011 she was recognized by the Good Samaritan Foundation as a “Woman of Compassion”. She taught and trained thousands of nurses in her lifetime, retiring in 1996.

Claire was born and raised in Mt. Healthy, attending Assumption grade school and Mt. Healthy High School. In addition to being an avid traveler, she attended the symphony often and enjoyed playing golf in her younger days. Her friends and family will remember her compassion towards her parents with whom she lived until their deaths.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cincinnati Right to Life. Visitation at Assumption Church, 7711 Joseph, Mt Healthy, 45231 on Tuesday, September 1, 2026from 10 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00.
