Obituary

David M. Noonan, 83, of West Chester, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 11.

He was born on July 4, 1942, in Batavia, New York, to Millard and Betty Noonan.

He is survived by his cherished wife of nearly 50 years, Susan B. Noonan, followed by their children, Robert Klett, Tim Klett (and spouse, Robin Patterson), Kaley Stephens (and spouse, Justin Stephens), Holly Noonan (and fiancé, Edward Apodaca), Katherine Pei (and spouse, Enoch Pei), Jessica Klett (and fiancé, David Morris). He also leaves behind his brothers, Thomas Noonan and Robert Noonan. He was predeceased by his youngest brother, John Noonan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Griffin Carnell and Christopher Stenger, and his great-grandchildren, Lacey and Molly Pei.

David graduated from the University of Rochester in 1964 and served in the Peace Corps from 1964 to 1966. He leaves a lifetime of memories behind with U of Rochester best friend, Stu Levison along with other college friends who reunited almost every year at Meliora weekend. He also had lifelong connections to his Peace Corps buddies (Pak 9): Hugh Turner, Keith Christian, Jim Fox, Steve Engberg, Mike Dixon, and Ted Hunting.

David Noonan established his independent brokerage, Lakota Commercial Realty, in 2011, having been active in the commercial real estate industry since 1987. Prior to founding his own firm in Cincinnati, Ohio, he served as a Senior Vice President and Principal for Colliers International. Due to his integrity and fairness, he was widely respected in the industry and was one of a handful of commercial brokers in the country with the SIOR, CCIM AND LEED certifications.

He believed that ethics were a matter of “doing what was right when no one was looking.” That ethos permeated all of his life’s decisions. Giving to others and helping people were his legacy. He made every child in his life feel anchored and secure. He was there for friends who just needed someone to listen. And with Susan, they both were deeply invested in supporting the Brain Injury Association of Ohio and The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati.

But, he had a playful side too, and anyone who knew Dave Noonan, knew that he invented the Dad joke before it became a thing; he had that Irish irreverence, a great love of puns, and pranks, and nothing could get him laughing more than an off-color joke.

At Dave’s request, no funeral will be held. Instead, he chose to be remembered by friends and family in their own way. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute or to Blood Cancer United.
