David Ray Wymer, 82, of Madeira, OH, passed away at home on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Born on March 6, 1943, in Creekside, PA, Dave built a life defined by hard work, quiet determination, and deep generosity to those he loved. Sight unseen, he left Pennsylvania to attend Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC on a work-program scholarship. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army.
In 1968, Dave began a 35-year career at Procter & Gamble’s Research & Engineering Development departments. He was dispatched to China in 1995 where he led the successful design, construction and startup of national production facilities for Crest toothpaste, and later the opening P&G’s Technical Center in Beijing. In China, Dave also found his beloved wife, Portia, with whom he shared nearly thirty years of marriage. Upon his return from China and before he retired, Dave was a technology leader responsible for global packaging simplification and cost savings across all P&G’s businesses.
Dave is survived by his wife, Portia Xiao; sons Scott (Sherry) and Wes (Jenna); grandchildren Emily, Adam, Grace, and Mia; sister-in-law Ada Mae Wymer; as well as many family and friends across the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Margaret Wymer; brothers Charles, Lloyd and Jack Wymer; and sisters Margaret Fairman, LuVera Peffer and Anna Bence.
A celebration of Dave’s life will take place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Hodapp Funeral Home in West Chester. A public memorial visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, followed by a military honors service. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the American Cancer Society or Fishing Has No Boundaries in memory of Dave.
He will be deeply missed.
