Dawn R. Werling, née Hodges, passed away peacefully at her home in West Chester on May 13, 2026, after bravely battling pancreatic cancer for a year and a half. Born on November 1, 1962, in Hamilton, Ohio, Dawn lived a life marked by kindness, joy, and a lasting love for the outdoors.
A graduate of Edgewood High School, Dawn embarked on a career that showcased her exceptional talents as a landscaper. She devoted the majority of her professional life to serving the City of Blue Ash and the Great Parks of Hamilton County. Her contributions helped enrich the natural beauty of these areas. She retired in 2022, leaving a lasting impact on the communities she cared deeply about.
Dawn's vibrant personality was defined by her readiness to help others. Those who knew her will remember her warmth and generosity — qualities she shared with the many people she touched over the years. She took great pride in serving as a Girl Scout leader during her daughter Addison's grade school years. She also was a longtime volunteer for the St. Michael Festival, where she chaired the Bid-N-Buy booth and helped raise funds for the parish. Among her most cherished memories were the many Liberty, Kentucky service immersion trips she took with Addison.
Her passions extended beyond her work and volunteer efforts. Dawn had a deep appreciation for nature. She loved being outdoors, camping, and hiking, especially with family and friends. At home, she spent lots of time scrapbooking, crafting, and thrifting — creative outlets that allowed her to express her artistic talents and preserve memories.
Family was central to Dawn's life and happiness. She treasured moments spent with those closest to her, always surrounded by the love and camaraderie of family and friends. She is survived by her devoted husband, Scott Werling, and their beloved daughter, Addison Werling. Dawn was also a loving daughter to Don (Pat) Hodges and Linda (Ed Riley) Newcomb, and a cherished sister to Stacy (Carl) Hillard and Heather Hollister.
Dawn R. Werling’s passing leaves a profound loss in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in her life. Her memory remains a source of comfort and strength to her family and community.
