It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Debra (Deb or Debbie) Jane Powers. Debra left this world peacefully on May 21st, 2026 at the age of 71 years old. She was surrounded by her devoted husband of 54 years, Richard A Powers Sr,; her three children, Jonathan, Richard Jr (Renee), and Jennifer; along with many grandchildren and other loving family and friends.
Debra had a creative and artistic mind. She loved applying her mind to art and spent meticulous hours throughout her life creating masterpieces using her woodworking, stained-glass making, painting, and 3D printing skills. She had a natural and exceptional physical ability to make art and this is where she truly found her happiness. At a young age, she enjoyed playing softball and bowling with friends until she was no longer able due to disabilities. Despite her disabilities, she tried her best to enjoy the things she loved. She did this by teaching her grandchildren her artistic skills and having her grandchildren’s art displays hung throughout her home. Every piece of art that a grandchild made was important to her and her heart. She had a strong personality, a direct way of speaking, and a heart that cared deeply for her family and friends. She had an overwhelming love for dogs along with all other animals. Her baby dog, Pepper will deeply miss her.
Debra was born on October 9th, 1954 in Carthage, Ohio to the late Harold and Ruth Lakes. She is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Lakes (Debby). She is survived by her childhood sweetheart and devoted husband of 54 years, Richard A Powers Sr and their three children, Jonathan Powers, Richard Powers Jr (Renee), and Jennifer Stewart; her sister Diane Powers (Thomas); along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family.
Debra was a proud Mama to ten grandchildren: Nicholas Ariss-Powers, Benjamin Powers, Jessica Powers, Abigail Powers, Kelsey Powers, Austin Powers, Alyssa Stewart, Zachary Stewart, Jackson Stewart, Blake Stewart, and one bonus grandchild: Kolton Witt.
Debra’s family will forever cherish the laughter, wisdom, traditions, and unconditional love she gave so freely. She will be greatly missed and forever loved. Her memory will continue to live on through many of the lives that she has touched.
Visitation will take place at the Hodapp Funeral Home 7401 Vine St., Carthage, Wednesday, May 27th from 6 PM until 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Clement Church 4536 Vine St., St. Bernard, Thursday May 28th at 11 AM.
