Delbert V. Hodge Sr.

Delbert Vertrice Hodge Sr., 77, passed away on February 23, 2024, in Montgomery, OH. Devoted father of Teresa and husband Dale Embry, Lisa and husband Denver McDonald, Shari and husband Josh Ziemann, Christina Hodge, Delbert Hodge Jr. and wife Diana, and Christopher Hodge and wife Brittany Pollard. Loving grandfather of twelve grandchildren: Lori Trimble, Jessica Mcgee, Allison Wilford, Jason Choate, Kenny Lykins, Bradley Harris, Eric Harris, Brandon Harris, Lia Hodge, Daniel Hodge, Taylor Ziemann, Maiah Hodge, and Joshua Ziemann. Dear brother of Joel, Elvis, Elana and the late Wayne, Linda, Shirley, and Dennis. Also preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Anna (Sims) Hodge. 

Delbert received his General Education Degree, and after spending a short stint serving his country in the US Army, he earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Cincinnati State College. He spent his entire career focusing on improving local roads, highways, and bridges as a Hamilton County Engineer. Retiring at the age of 57, Delbert was able to lean heavily into his passions of hunting, fishing, bargain hunting, spending time with his animals, and most importantly, watching his grandchildren play sports.

Throughout his life, Delbert’s “Born to Raise Hell” rebellious youth was eventually replaced by a patient and steadfast nature. One who felt guilty to even harm a rabbit out in the wild, and left a mark in the hearts, minds, and souls of every person he met. Both family and community have lost a father, a brother, a cousin, an uncle, and a faithful friend.

Visitation Thursday, February 29, 10-11am immediately followed by a service at Hodapp Funeral Home, 8815 Cincinnati Columbus Rd, West Chester, OH 45069. Upon completion of the funeral service, interment will take place at Arlington Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2145 Compton Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45231.
