Marie Brandl

Delores Marie Brandl, age 87, entered eternal life Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at her home in Mason, OH. Born March 22,1936 in Oulu, WI to Everett and Hilda née Marjamaki Johnson, she graduated from South Shore High School in 1954. 

Marie married William “Bill” Brandl of Sheboygan on October 20, 1956 in Duluth, MN. They relocated to Kenosha, WI then moved to Mount Pleasant in the early 1960s, residing there until 2022 when they transferred to Mason, OH.

She was employed as a laboratory technician including at St. Luke’s Hospital in Racine for over two decades. In 1989 she earned an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Accounting from Gateway Technical College. She began a second career as a business manager at a physician's office and at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church from 1994 until 2003. She was active in the St. Paul's parish for more than 40 years and served in various ministries as a teacher, lector, and funeral choir participant.

She was a member and officer of the Finnish American Society of Milwaukee. Marie was very proud of her heritage and took two trips to Finland in 1998 and 2003. Her family enjoyed travel to Niagara Falls, Glacier National Park, Disney World, Washington, DC and Williamsburg, VA. She also made pilgrimages to the Holy Land in 2006 and the Oberammergau Passion Play in 2010.

Marie is survived by her husband; daughters Mary (Bruce) Haarmann of Waukesha, WI, Joyce (Dan) Gitter of Mequon, WI, Carol (Dave) Topp of Cincinnati, OH; son Michael (Sona) of Austin, TX; eight grandchildren: David (Lydia), Steven (Heather), Emily (Daniel), Jeffrey (Emily), Sarah (Jack), Nathan (Melissa), Meghana, Jonathan; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Ethel Irene Johnson and Martha Olson, brother Robert Johnson, brother-in-law Ronald Olson, sister-in-law Ethel Johnson.

A visitation will occur at The Stone Center, Christian Villages at Mason in Mason, OH on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 10 am the Memorial Service at 11 am. Burial will take place at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove at a later date. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St, Mount Pleasant, WI 53406 or Christian Villages at Mason, 411 Western Row Rd, Mason, OH 45040.
