Dennis Martin Clasgens (1945-2026)
Dennis Martin Clasgens, age 81, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, in Lebanon, OH, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on March 11, 1945, in Cincinnati, OH, Dennis (“Denny" or “Duke”) was the beloved son of the late Arnold and Gertrude Clasgens (nee Boehm). He graduated from Hughes High School in 1963 and then attended Xavier University until June 1965.
From April 1966 to October 1970, he worked at General Electric’s jet engine plant as a dispatcher and scheduler. He then took a position as Transportation Foreman for the Kroger Company until February 1971.
Denny served the Cincinnati Police Division for 27 distinguished years, joining the department on February 28, 1971, as part of the 55th Recruit Class. Over his career, he rose through the ranks from Patrolman to Police Specialist, and ultimately to Police Sergeant in 1991. He dedicated his service to Districts 2, 4, and 5, and concluded his career in the Court Property Unit, retiring on July 11, 1998, with 13 letters of appreciation and commendation. Following his retirement, Denny proudly returned to public service for a time with the West Chester Police Department.
Outside of work, Denny enjoyed his dogs, golfing, reading, yard work, card games, his sports cars, traveling, fantasy football, and spending time with Helen, family, and life-long friends.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ronald Clasgens; and his step-son, Todd Whited.
He is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen (nee Gilpen); children Kim Wolking (Joe) of Edgewood, KY, Keith Clasgens (Melissa) of Cold Spring, KY, Daniel Clasgens (Kelly) of Edgewood, KY, and Angela Dawn Clasgens of Morrow, OH; 11 grandchildren, Audra, Alicia, Christine, Elizabeth, Abigail, Todd, Steven, John, Drew, Riley, and Jessica; and 4 great-grandchildren, Roxy, Ariana, Ryder, and Brady.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Hodapp Funeral Home, located at 6041 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45224. Private family visitation will begin at 9:00 AM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at St. James Church - White Oak, located at 3565 Hubble Road, Cincinnati, OH 45247. Denny will be laid to rest immediately following the Mass at St. James Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Denny’s honor to the Fraternal Order of Police, Queen City Lodge #69. Contributions can be mailed to: FOP Lodge 69, 1900 Central Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45214.
