Dennis William Farrell, 84, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Cincinnati on March 21, 2026. Dennis was a devoted husband of 45 years to his late wife, Donna Jean Farrell (nee Lachenman). Together, they built a strong and loving family that remained at the center of his life. Dennis was a caring father to his four children: Denise (Rick) Browning, Michelle Farrell, Daniel (Melinda) Farrell, and Mollie (Michael) Williams. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Sarah and Nicholas Browning, Brooke and Evan Farrell Woods, Cameron and Gavin Farrell, Brodie and Oliver Williams.
Born on September 30, 1941, to the late Harvey and Elva (Gunlack) Farrell in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a twin to the late Kenneth Farrell and older brother to Noreen (John) Craven and Michael (Debbie) Farrell.
Dennis attended Roger Bacon High School, where he deepened his Catholic faith. He went on to study Electrical Engineering at the University of Dayton. After graduating, he moved to California to begin his career, later moving to Florida, where he proudly applied his engineering talents to NASA’s space program. During this time, he contributed to one of the most exciting and remarkable eras of scientific discovery. Eventually, Dennis returned to his hometown of Cincinnati, where he built a distinguished career as a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He inspired countless students with his knowledge and dedication to teaching.
Dennis was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time at church, playing tennis and getting out on the golf course. He had a fondness for dogs, especially dachshunds, and treasured their companionship. One of his greatest joys was traveling the country in an RV, exploring the beauty of America’s national parks and creating lasting memories with his family along the way.
Dennis spent a majority of his retirement living in The Villages, Florida. He loved playing golf and even achieved a hole-in-one in 2022. He also enjoyed happy hours, fine dining and spending time with friends and loved ones while soaking up the Florida sunshine.
Dennis will be remembered for his sweet nature, sense of humor, and love of family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the students he mentored, and the family he cherished.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
