Donald E. Metz, a devoted family man, passed away on March 7, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on November 12, 1947, in Cincinnati, Donnie lived a full life always dedicated to his loved ones and his career.
Donnie’s professional journey began with a long and rewarding tenure at Ford Motor Company, where he worked for 39 years before retiring in 2018. His commitment to his work mirrored his dedication to his family, which was evident in the cherished memories he created throughout his life. One of his favorite memories includes the treasured family vacations to the beach, as well as countless adventures with Beverley, his beloved wife of 51 years, as they explored Major League Baseball parks across the country.
In addition to his career, Donnie served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, enlisting out of high school. His time in the Vietnam War instilled a great love for his country.
Donnie was not only a devoted husband and father but also an enthusiastic sports fan. He took great pleasure in coaching his sons in baseball, earning the affectionate title of "Coach Metz." The joyous sight of all the kids piling into the back of his truck for a Dairy Queen treat after a victorious game for the Wyoming Meat Market baseball team remains a cherished legacy. His love for sports extended to being a diehard supporter of the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals, and he proudly cheered on his children and grandchildren as they played on their many sports teams and various activities.
An avid collector, Donnie enjoyed his hobbies of coin collecting and golfing, often accompanied by his sons. He had a fondness for Ford trucks, especially his well-loved truck, Old Smokie, which was a symbol of his character—dependable and strong.
Donnie is survived by his daughter Mitzi Neal and her husband Jeff; his sons Joseph Metz and his wife Erin, Stephen Metz and his wife Kelly, and Bradley Metz and his wife Carrie. Poppie will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Hannah Monnig and her husband Josh, Brooke Young and her husband Keith, and Wyatt, Samuel, Cooper, Charles, Parker, and Emerson. Additionally, he leaves behind his great-grandson Carson Monnig, who was a source of joy and pride in his later years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverley Metz (Salyers); his parents William and Jean Metz (Jones); and his sister Carol Metz. Donnie's legacy, marked by love, adventure, and unwavering support, will endure in the hearts of those who knew him. His spirit will forever inspire family gatherings and the shared laughter and love that he fostered throughout his life.
