Donny “Jody” Winburn

Donny "Jody" Winburn, born on July 2, 1970, in West Liberty, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly at home in Fairfield, Ohio, on November 5, 2025. Jody's journey through life was marked by his pursuit of varied careers, ultimately finding his path as a truck driver for Armor Metal Group, before he became disabled from a brain tumor and pesky, debilitating seizures and headaches. Throughout his life, he embraced many roles, from factory work to farm duties involving horses, and even driving for a medical transportation company. His versatility reflected his industrious spirit and desire to explore the world around him.

A proud graduate of George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, Kentucky, Jody furthered his education by obtaining a certificate in Ferrier Science from the University of Kentucky. His commitment to learning and adapting was evident in his myriad hobbies and interests. Nature held a special place in Jody's heart; he treasured numerous trips to Red River Gorge, Lake Erie, and other Great Lakes, Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, Portland, Maine, and Niagara Falls never hesitating to dive into the water, regardless of its chill. His creativity shone through in his woodworking projects, including beautiful bookshelves and a cherished hope chest he crafted as a wedding gift for his niece. Additionally, he loved experimenting with tasks like winemaking, photography and painting, showcasing his passion for artistry in all forms.

Jody was known for his steadfastness; he was a stubborn man who rarely took the time to build trust with those around him. Once that trust was established, with the few, he opened his heart wide, demonstrating love and generosity in abundance. He was always willing to help those in need, famously ready to give the shirt off his back to support friends and multiple charities. Jody maintained a close bond with his many friends, including the men of Iron, whom he loved and prayed for unceasingly.

His accomplishments were a source of great pride, particularly his love and compassion for his children & grandchildren: Chassidy (Joseph), Austin (Christina), Trevor, Reuben, and stepsons Austin and Aaron (Sarah), Grandchildren- Trenton, Silas, Miles, Adan, Kairi, Arya, Niayla, Sammy, Jaci & Anya. Though distance separated them, he kept their pictures and cherished memories close to his heart. He loved his pets Maggie, the Oreo cat, who passed several years ago, Georgia, the Siamese who he trained to come when called, Gibby who he also spent time training. Then there is his Hachi the Shiba, named after his favorite dog movie. 

Always an aspiring writer, Jody published his first and only book, "The Saints of Red River," a reflection of his unique perspective and storytelling ability and love  for Jesus, the apocalypse and the bible. 

Jody honorably served in the Army, where he held the rank of Sergeant before receiving a medical discharge following an ammunition accident. His military service remains a testament to his commitment to duty and resilience.

Jody is survived by his beloved spouse, Karla, along with his children, stepsons, and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who will continue to cherish his memory. He leaves behind countless friends whose lives he touched deeply, immersed in the love and prayer he offered throughout his life. Jody is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and sister.

In the face of chronic pain and suffering, Jody’s passing brings solace, as he is now free from his failing body. He will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, love for nature, artistic endeavors, and above all, the boundless love he extended to his family and friends.

With Jodys love for the outdoors, his final wishes were to have his ashes spread about the Great Lakes and throughout nature. Friends and family will gather in the spring when weather is nicer for a celebration of life and scattering his ashes where he wished.
