Douglas A. Marcum, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in McKinney, Texas, at the age of 73. He was born on December 28, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Doug dedicated many years of his career to Amtrak Railroad in Beech Grove, Indiana. His retirement marked the end of an era.
He was passionate about many pursuits, particularly enjoying long rides and road trips on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Doug’s enthusiasm extended to game nights playing pool with friends and evenings at the bowling alley. He found joy in walking his dogs, and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching Drag racing and passionately supported his favorite teams, including his beloved Raiders.
Doug waged a courageous battle against Parkinson’s with PSP and Dementia, demonstrating remarkable strength and resilience through his struggles. His spirit remained unyielded even in the face of adversity, a testament to his character.
He leaves behind a loving legacy through his family, including sons Brian (Stacey) Marcum, Sean (Nicole) Marcum, and Roderick (Lori) Marcum. Doug was a proud grandfather to Lucy, Layne, Jordan, Annabelle, Jade, Madalyn, Ivy, and Eli, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Debbie (Tom) Ohmer and Kim (Don) Williams, along with his beloved dogs “The Girls” Sophie and Missy, and numerous extended family and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
Doug is preceded in death by his father, William J. Marcum Jr., his mother, Mary Marcum, and his brother, Greg Marcum.
Friends and family are invited to honor Doug's memory at Hodapp Funeral Homes - Carthage in Cincinnati, Ohio. The visitation will take place on January 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati at 2:00 PM.
Douglas A. Marcum will be remembered for his zest for life, his love for family, and his unwavering spirit. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
