Edward G. Rathman, 68 Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and servant of faith
Edward G. Rathman, 68, a longtime resident of Monfort Heights, passed away tragically in a car accident on June 7, 2025, while visiting his oldest son and daughter-in-law in Florida.
A devoted husband to Karen (née Roth) for 47 years, Ed was the proud father of four children: Andrew (Jaclyn), Timothy (Erin), Christine (Tyler) Hughes, and David (Danielle). He was a cherished Papaw to nine grandchildren: Hailey, Hannah, Jolene, Hunter, Harlee, Edward, Payton, Howard, and Gordon, who were the joys of his life.
He is also survived by his sister Carol (Jerry) Crowley, his brothers George Rathman, and John (Rita) Rathman. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. Rathman (2014) and Mary Ann Rathman (née Birn, 2022). Their values of faith and family lived on in Ed’s every action.
A devout Catholic, Ed was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, where he dedicated his time to serving others with compassion and humility. A lifelong fan of Xavier University Men's Basketball, he was a season ticket holder and rarely missed a game. He also loved coaching basketball and spending time on the golf course, where he found both competition and camaraderie.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6041 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45224 (College Hill). A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, June 27, at 10:30 AM at St. Ignatius Church, 5222 North Bend Road, Cincinnati, OH 45247. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Delhi, where Ed will be laid to rest beside his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Cincinnati, in honor of Ed’s lifelong commitment to serving those in need.
