Eleanor Jean Walter nee Fetchu born October 27, 1932 in Akron, OH, died peacefully on May 23, 2025 at the age of 92 in Mason, Ohio. The daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie Fetchu, she attended North High School and later the University of Akron. After college she began her career at B.F. Goodrich Tire Company, where she met her future husband Frank in the Engineering Department, and transferred with him to the Los Angeles, California office shortly after marriage and worked there until their first child was born. Several years later, Frank and Eleanor transferred back to Northeast Ohio, living in North Canton and Sagamore Hills until retirement in 1987 when they moved to Pinehurst, North Carolina, where she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Pinehurst Country Club. Eleanor dedicated all of her spare time volunteering in the community. Some of Eleanor's volunteering endeavors included; directly out of high school as a receptionist at St Thomas Hospital in Akron, Ohio, as a nursing home "friendly visitor" and linen caretaker at her Church in Fullerton, California. Eleanor was also a library aide at the V.A. Hospital, a companion at Hawthorne State Hospital, a tutor at St. Barnabas Elementary School, an Altar Caretaker at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Bingo volunteer, and Funeral Meal helper in and around Northeast Ohio. In her later years in Pinehurst, North Carolina, she was a Meals on Wheels volunter and proudly never missed a Friday delivering meals in the many years she volunteered there. She also found time in her retirement years to golf with the 9-holes ladies' group at Pinehurst Country Club.
Eleanor dedicated her entire life to her family, especially her children and grandchildren and was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 65 years Frank Vincent Walter, her children David Walter (Pearl), and Donna Walter, siblings Martin (Dolores), Dorothy, and Robert, sister-in-law Mary Ann Fetchu, and many other in-laws.
She is survived by children Deborah Nabak (Dennis), Douglas Walter (Mauri) and Daniel Walter (Jill), grandchildren Kevin Walter, Danielle Nabak (Jeremy), Dominic Nabak (Brianna), Courtney Stalter (Tyler), Kyle Walter, Christian Walter, Katherine Holden (Nicholas) and Elizabeth Walter. Great grandchildren Addyson Stalter and Lyndon Stalter. She is further survived by her brother David C. Fetchu, sister-in law Dolores Fetchu, daughter-in-law Pearl Walter, former daughter-in-law Renee Walter, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Her family is grateful to the staff at The Landings of Long Cove for the special care they gave her in her final months, as well as to those at Artis Senior Living of Mason for the many years of precious care and compassion they gave her.
