Eugene L. Burton

July 13, 1943 — March 31, 2026

Cincinnati

Eugene (Gene) Lee Burton, age 82 of Colerain, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Fort Hamilton Hospital on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Gene was born July 13, 1943 in Hamilton, Ohio at Mercy Hospital. Gene married Kay Taylor on September 14, 1963.

Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kay Burton; his parents, Tony and Lorraine Burton; and his siblings Paul (Rita) Burton, Anne (Bob) Durant, and Larry (Carol) Burton.

Gene is survived by his two daughters, Kim Burton and Laura (Steve) Vaughn; his grandchildren, Ashley (Devin) Chaney, Zachary (Taylor) Vaughn, and Emily Vaughn; his great grandchildren, Samuel Chaney and Mia Vaughn; his sister, Marilyn (Alan) Rayburn; and many nieces and nephews.

Gene Burton was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather a family could have. He showed his daughters a perfect example of a loving relationship with his wife and provided safety and security to their household. His character was unwavering and he led a life of honor, kindness, and generosity.

Gene was an active soul from birth until his last moments. He liked to sing at church & weddings with his wife, play tennis, ride bikes, complete home improvement projects, dancing (on occasion), and yard work. In between his physical activities, he loved spending time with his family, playing Shang-Hai and Euchre, eating jellybeans, watching football, playing Mahjong, and reading before bed.

Gene lived a life of generosity and service to others. He served as president of Northside Kiwanis and was active for several years. He planned the annual student recognition scholarship event where the valedictorians were honored. After his professional retirement, Gene was a proud board member at Renew Ministries, where he helped organize community donation events.

Gene was a proud and involved grandparent. From the all-weekend sleepovers with the grandkids, to riding bikes, to family vacations, to never missing extracurricular activities, to the coffee shop dates, and to always making it to grandparents day at school — he made lifelong memories with Ashley, Zachary, and Emily that they cherish and will tell their own children about.

Though we all will miss him dearly, we are comforted with the fact that he is now reunited with his true love, alongside the family and friends who have anxiously awaited his arrival to “scare up a game of Euchre.”

“See ya.” (Gene’s last words)
