MILLER, Gerald J. of Greenhills, Ohio passed away on January 1st, 2023 at the age of 85 after a brief illness.  Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Barbara Miller (nee Petering) and cherished daughter Maria Miller and son-in-law Mark Minichiello along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

His brother the late Donald A. Miller and parents Clinton and Sylvia Miller preceded him in death.

Jerry retired from Kroger Company after 43 years as a driver.  He also served in the 123rd Air National Guard having been deployed to Germany during the Berlin crisis in 1961.  Being of German decent and very proud of his heritage, Jerry enjoyed his time in the mother country that his grandparents left years prior.

Jerry was an original pioneer of Greenhills, a graduate of Greenhills High School, a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, a Honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, and member of the American Legion.

As an avid traveler, Jerry and Barbara spent their retirement traveling the entire United States and Canada in their 40-foot Class A RV.  He loved this country and all the beautiful places each state has to offer.

As an avid sports lover, Jerry coached his daughter Maria’s softball and soccer teams in Greenhills.  Through his years as a coach, Jerry enjoyed building the confidence of young athletes, teaching the importance of teamwork as well as commitment and dedication to the team.

When not coaching athletes, Jerry loved kicking back with a frozen Margarita or an ice-cold beer in a frosted mug to watch one of his favorite sport teams such as the Bengals, Reds, Bearcats, Buckeyes or Fighting Irish.

Jerry had a great love for animals having spent his childhood visiting his grandpa Miller’s farm in Harrison, Ohio.  Over his 85 years he had many dogs and a cat or two that he adored especially Champ, Buffy and Murphy.  His love for God’s creature’s great and small is a lesson he passed on to his daughter.

If you’ve ever spent time with Jerry, then you are familiar with his sense of humor or received a teasing or two from him.  Jerry always brought a sense of fun to any occasion, which will be missed by his many nieces and nephews who he adored!

In a day and age when so many people are focused on superficial connections with others through their phones or computers, Jerry always made it a point to know the names of everyone he met, learn about them and always ask about their families by name.

While in hospice, the depth of those connections he made with others was deeply comforting by the number of people that stopped what they were doing to spend time with Jerry not once, but on several occasions prior to his passing.

Jerry lived his life to the fullest, explored what intrigued him and loved deeply!  What more could one ask for in life!  He will continue to live on in our hearts every time we say his name…Jerry Miller!

Memorials can be made to: Little Sister of the Poor or St. Vincent De Paul
