Gerald Robert Wiedmann, born August 31, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his hometown on June 24, 2026, at the age of 80. His life was marked by enduring commitment—to his family, his community, and the many passions that shaped his long and distinguished journey.
Gerry was a proud product of Cincinnati. He attended St. Clement Grade School before continuing his education at Roger Bacon High School. His academic promise and commitment to excellence earned him recognition as an Evans Scholar at The Ohio State University, embodying intelligence, leadership, and the promise of service.
Gerry's professional life is a testament to his deep roots in the community he cherished. He dedicated 55 years of remarkable service to the city of St. Bernard, holding numerous positions throughout his long tenure. His roles spanned Planning and Development, Code Enforcement, and service as Recreation Director, President of Council and Head of the CAA. Each responsibility was met with vigor, integrity, and a drive to improve his city. He also brought his leadership and business acumen to Johnny Bench Distributing, where he proudly served as manager.
Beyond his career, Gerry left an indelible mark on the sporting community. He managed and played for the Cincinnati Sudds, earning a place as a member of the National Softball Hall of Fame for his extraordinary commitment and accomplishments in the game. His love for sports extended to coaching soccer and managing countless youth, amateur, and semi-professional softball teams over the years. Gerald served not just as a coach but as a mentor and friend to many, instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and respect for the game.
At the heart of Gerry life was his devotion to family. He is survived by his loving children: Mike (Lisa) and Missy. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Jake (Sophia), Logan (Mary), and Samantha (Ryan), as well as his great-grandchildren Noah, Nell, and Noah’s new brother.
Gerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pat Wiedmann; his father, Ronald Wiedmann; and his mother, Matilda Wiedmann, siblings Ginny, Don and Lois. Their memory endures in the stories and values Gerry carried forward and passed down to those who loved him.
Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of Gerry at Hodapp Funeral Homes – Carthage, 7401 Vine St., Cincinnati, OH 45216. The Memorial Gathering will be held on July 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All who knew and cared for Gerry are welcome to honor his memory and celebrate a life well lived.
Gerry's legacy is defined by decades of service, dedication to family, and a powerful passion for community and sport. His presence will be deeply missed, but his impact will be felt for years to come in the city he so faithfully served and in the hearts of all who knew him.
