Obituary

Gregory T. LaLonde III, of Cincinnati, passed away peacefully at home on August 6, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. He was 82.

Greg was born February 6, 1944, in Detroit, the eldest son of Gregory T. LaLonde Jr. and Catherine "Betty" LaLonde.

His family moved to Cincinnati and at just fourteen years old, Greg met the love of his life, Patricia "Patty" Donovan, the youngest daughter of Christopher V. and Hilda H. Donovan. Greg and Patty married on August 13, 1966, beginning a life together defined by an unwavering love, kindness, and generosity that became the foundation for everything that followed.

Greg graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1962 and Xavier University in 1966. He played golf at both and captained Xavier University’s team during his senior year. Greg then served his country as an Intelligence Officer before returning home to Cincinnati, where his entrepreneurial spirit flourished and he went on to own and operate several businesses. For Greg, though, business was never simply about the work; it was about the people, the relationships, and the friendships built along the way.

Greg enjoyed golf, was an avid fisherman, and loved to read. He was also a card player of genuine renown. Whether through golf, cards, fishing or simply life, the friendships he made were something special: remarkable in their number, their range, and their staying power. Greg was the friend that people counted on.

Additionally, Greg was a man of profound Catholic faith, a faith that shaped his life and brought with it friendships that endured across the decades. Among them was Father Jack Heim, who first taught Greg at Xavier and would later marry Greg and Patty, and, in time, their children after them. His faith was not loud but lived: in his devotion to the church and his wife Patty; in the family they built together; and in the way they raised their five children who remain the closest of friends. He loved his daughter-in-law and sons-in-law as his own, and nothing brought him greater joy than his twelve beautiful grandchildren upon whom he endlessly bestowed his extraordinary wit, clever antics, unwavering love, and unflappable generosity.

Greg is survived by his beloved wife Patty, their five children Sara (John Marrocco), Laura (Neal Gardner), Greg (Maya Alsabrook), Nicole (Joe Rouse), and Renee (Steve Hall), and their twelve grandchildren Olivia, Johnny, and Christopher Marrocco; Nealie and Abigail Gardner; Grace, Greg and Annette LaLonde; Ben and Michael Rouse; and Stephen and Eleanor Hall.

A private service was held for Greg's family, and a celebration of life is being planned for a later date, when family and friends will gather to remember Greg and honor the life he shared with all of us.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Greg's memory to Hospice of Cincinnati.
