Helen Laverne Lunsford

Helen L. Lunsford (Sowder) of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Monday September 1, 2025 in West Chester, Ohio. She was born September 21, 1940 to Eddie & Laura Alice Sowder of Rockcastle County, Ky.

Helen is survived by 2 daughters Patricia(Jack) Davis, Karen(Terry) Taylor. Also 2 Sisters, Frances Humphress & Faye Gullett (Doyle) 1 Brother Ronnie Sowder(Joyce) Also David, Mark & Chris Sowder of Ky. In addition to her parents, She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Clyde, and their son Rodger Clyde Lunsford, and 2 great grandchildren Mason and Nevaeh. Helen has 7 grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, Daniel, Sherri, Debra, Amanda and John, 10 great grandchildren: Austin, Isiaih, Isabella, Connor, Lillian, Jackson, Jaclyn,MacKenzie, Luke and Lela, & 2 great great granddaughters. Helen & Clyde loved these children dearly.

Helen loved teaching little children in Sunday School. She often came home with drawings for "Ms Helen". She loved Clyde and was lost without him. They were classmates and he pulled her pigtails at school while sitting behind her. They were married when she was 15, he was 18. Dad often reminisced about following Grandpa Sowder up and down the rows of a cornfield, asking if he & Helen could get married.The first answer "I'm not sure the two of you can get along" He continued to follow him asking....Finally Grandpa said "I reckon you can" the two left to go to the Preacher's House and were married, as Clyde had to be home in Cincinnati, to go to work that night for his shift at Steelcraft. Helen will be missed by her family, friends, and neighbors We are comforted knowing she is pain free and at peace now.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon, at Hodapp Funeral Home in West Chester, 8815 Cincinnati Columbus Rd, West Chester, Ohio 45069. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mason, Ohio.
