Obituary

Henry William Schumacher, Jr., age 95, passed away peacefully at home in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Friday, October 2, 2026.

Henry was born in Wooden Shoe Hollow on March 30, 1931, to the late Henry and Minnie (Rennegarbe) Schumacher. He married the love of his life, Elaine Hoeweler, on October 16, 1954.

Henry was hard-working, compassionate, and known for his sharp wit, optimism, and ready smile. He was a third-generation greenhouse grower in Wooden Shoe Hollow, where he grew hot-house tomatoes, lettuce, and bedding plants. As a small-business owner, Henry was also adept at repairing and building labor-saving devices through his own initiative and ingenuity.

Henry enjoyed reading, playing cards, fishing, bowling, watching Westerns, and cheering for the Cincinnati Reds and UC basketball. Above all, he valued his family and instilled in his children the importance of family, hard work, and having fun.

Henry was especially proud of his service to his country in the Korean War. Henry and his son, Bill, traveled together to Washington, D.C., with the Tri-State Honor Flight in recognition of his military service—a special experience they shared and remembered with pride.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Albert (Dorothy) Schumacher, Louise (Paul) Hill, Robert (Lil) Schumacher, and Pauline (Les) Gajus.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Elaine (Hoeweler) Schumacher; four children, Debbie (Tom) DeMuth, Linda (Ron) Headings, Bill (Joan) Schumacher, and Lisa Schumacher; grandchildren, Joe Schumacher, Eric (Kayla) DeMuth, Jake Headings (Jesse Coe), and Luke Headings (Erin Warner); great-grandchildren, Jaye DeMuth, Grant DeMuth, and Teigan Schumacher; sister-in-law Susan; brother-in-law Bill Bareither; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Henry leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love of family, service to his country, and a life lived with optimism, humor, and a ready smile. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6041 Hamilton Ave., College Hill, OH, 45224 on Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 10 AM until Service at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Henry’s name to Tri-State Honor Flight. https://www.honorflighttristate.org/donate
