Hyman Brandenburg, born on July 7, 1931, in Beattyville, Kentucky, passed peacefully at home on December 14, 2025, surrounded by love with his wife Joyce by his side. Hyman dedicated his life to his family and career, embodying the qualities of a quiet and caring man who was always honest to a fault. His genuine nature endeared him to many, and he will be remembered as a great listener who always prioritized the well-being of those around him – including his parents, siblings, wife, and children.
Hyman's career was marked by hard work and dedication; he spent 14 years at Metal Specialty Co. before becoming a senior truck driver at Spring Grove Cemetery, where he served for 25 years until his retirement at the age of 61. Throughout his life, he took pride in his accomplishments, most notably buying his first car with his own money, a significant milestone that he cherished dearly.
In his youth, Hyman had a love for the outdoors, engaging in fishing, hunting, and trapping, and enjoying the fulfillment that came from raising animals and farming tobacco later he did woodworking and loved walking. His adventurous spirit and strong work ethic were complemented by a personality that shone through his interactions; if you asked him a question, you could count on receiving an honest and thoughtful answer, though he would often wait to be asked unless provoked.
A beloved husband, Hyman and his wife Joyce shared a beautiful love story. Joyce recalls falling in love at first sight when Hyman rolled up in a convertible, exuding charm with his deep tan and pearly white teeth, looking every bit like a model. Over their 68 years together, they created countless memories that reflect the depths of their affection for one another.
Hyman leaves behind his cherished family, including his son Darrell Brandenburg and daughter-in-law Barb Brandenburg, daughter Pam Johnson and son-in-law Dave Johnson, and son Gary Brandenburg (Amy Daniels). He was a proud grandfather to Crystal (Brad) Gabbard, Sandy (Mark) Linville, Lisa (Jared)Thorsen, Breanna Brandenburg, Nicole Brandenburg, and Cassie Johnson, and a delighted great-grandfather to Branden Gabbard, Leah Gabbard, Ella Linville, Asher Linville, Isla Linville, Kinsley Thorsen, and Wesson Thorsen. He is also survived by his niece Blanche Noe and nephew Wayne Brandenburg.
He was preceded in death by his father Dan Brandenburg, mother Nellie Brandenburg, brother Conley Brandenburg, sister Viva Lee Brandenburg, and sister Nanny Jean Brandenburg.
Hyman Brandenburg leaves behind a legacy of kindness, honesty, and unwavering support for his loved ones, and he will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. His spirit lives on in the cherished memories held by family and friends, reminding us all of the profound impact he had on each of our lives. simply put he was the genuine article.
Visitation will take place on Friday December 19, 2025 from 2 pm until the time of funeral service at 4 pm, at Hodapp Funeral Home in West Chester, 8815 Cincinnati Columbus RD (US 42), West Chester OH, 45069
