Jim passed away peacefully on October 8, 2026, after a courageous battle against cancer. He is survived by his incredible wife and best friend, Paula (Siefert) of 40 years. He was a dedicated dad to April (Dave Bruder), Jennifer (Tony Barrett), and Nick (Stephanie Mullins). Devoted Papa to Jay, Ashley, James, Cam, Wes, Wyatt, and Quentin and Great Papa to Milow and Kabella. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews and brother, Paul. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Hugh Cavanaugh and Patricia Stenger and his sister, Jeanne.

Jim had a love for searching the many antique shops, as he was an avid collector of diecast cars and anything related to the Dukes of Hazard. A room in his home was dedicated to this hobby and overflowed with his many finds. He loved the Smoky Mountains and always looked forward to traveling when the mountains were calling. He and Paula were known for their many adventures as they traveled together side by side to where the roads took them. Jim was a jokester and his laughter was infectious. He took pride in their cars, and he could be found in Mike's Carwash weekly with his, especially, as it was never allowed to be dirty. He also loved being with family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, October 16, 2026, at Hodapp Funeral Home, 7401 Vine Street, Cincinnati, 45216 from 11:00-12:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 11000 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, 45249.
