James Howard Palmer, affectionately known as “Pop” and “Grampy,” passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Loveland, Ohio.
He was born on November 5, 1941, in Kings Mills, Ohio to his parents George E. Palmer and Edna Jane Palmer (Weber). His two siblings Donald Edward Palmer, and Nancy Jane Peters.
James lived a full life marked by hard work, devotion to his family, and a spirit of quiet generosity.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty L. Palmer (Ross), as well as two of his children, Roberta Rountree and Bryon Rountree.
“James Palmer was a loving husband to Betty L. Palmer. Even when they didn’t have much, he always made sure they could go where she wished. He gave what he could, putting fuel in the tank of her dreams, doing his best to bring her happiness.”
He is survived by his three children: Stephen Rountree (Stephanie), Steven Rountree (Joan Murray), and Robert Rountree (Linda). He also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory and stories.
James worked for many years at a printing press with International Paper, dedicating himself to providing for his family. Outside of work, he enjoyed a life of simple pleasures. He loved getting out of the house and spending his time adventuring, always finding something to explore. He was known for his gift of conversation and could often be found sharing stories, bringing laughter and warmth to those around him.
James will be remembered for his love of family, his steady presence, and the many stories he shared with those fortunate enough to listen.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
