James “Jim” Leroy Smith, 76, a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on June 4, 2024.

He is survived by his Wife, Kathryn Ann Smith, sons Jason (Shanna), Justin, Jeremy, daughters Jeanne (Charles), Jaye, Chrissie, grandchildren Cheyenne (Ben), Cassidy, Casey, Chase, Benjamin “Ben”, Kathryn “Kat”, Riley, sisters Jan Smith, Judie Curtis (Paul), and Jill Weschler (Sherman) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Audrey Smith, son Jeffrey Smith, sister Joanne Sharpe, niece Joanne Nolan, and nephew Michael Nolan.

Jim devoted his life to his family. His children and grandchildren reflect fondly on the many memories that he shared. He was a lover of “good beer” and often used the quote “life is too short to drink cheap beer.” He enjoyed attending the local Oktoberfests with his family and engaging in cultural and family traditions.

Jim was a Machine repairman at General Electric until his retirement in 2007. He also served in the United States Navy and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He received the National Defense Service Medal. Jim met his wife Kathy while serving in the Navy. Their marriage spanned 52 years and produced many children, grandchildren and a lifetime of memories. He was a member of the American Legion Post 681 and Union Steward for IAM Local 912.

Jim was a true lover of classic movies and music. He devoted time to collecting movies and records and would share his collection with anyone who had an interest in watching or listening with him. Many nights were shared watching classic movies or tv shows or listening to music on his stereo.

We will never forget the love and wisdom that Jim shared. We ask that you keep Jim’s memory alive and never forget the wonderful times you shared with him and the things he taught you.
