Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share that James A. Staten jr passed away peacefully early in the morning October 27th at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash.

James "Dick" was born in Wellston, Ohio on February 16th, 1941 to James A. Staten "Al" and Sarah J. Staten "Jane". He then grew up in Hillsboro, Ohio where he played basketball in high school. After graduation, Dick was accepted into an electrical engineering apprenticeship program through Cincinnati Milling/ Milicron and studied at University of Cincinnati.

Dick met Sandra Tarter in 1963, they married in 1967 and moved to California. Two years later they had Trinette and then the little family moved back to Ohio. He was transferred to a new location in South Lebanon and they found a nice home to live in, in a great neighborhood in Mason, Ohio. There they had 2 more daughters, Stephanie and Melissa.

Dick was always intellectually curious, as well as civic minded, he joined Mason's Planning Commission in 1981, at the request of Lou Eves. In 1983, he ran for and won a seat on Mason's city council, where he served for 20 years. During that tenure, he served as mayor from 1993- 1997 and vice mayor from 1997- 1999. He didn't stay out of city business long, he joined the zoning committee and then also was appointed to the Warren county board of health in 2008, representing the city of Mason all the way into 2026.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Trinette (William) Mackey and Stephanie (Dennis) Wilson, his much loved 7 grandchildren; Madeline Wilson, Jacob Wilson, Christian Mackey, Abigail Wilson, Isabelle Wilson, Zoe Wilson and Nathaniel Mackey, also his ex-wife Sandra Staten, his sister Alberta Kelley, his cousin Bill Staten, his girlfriend Sandy Hoppe, and his numerous coffee buddies, who will all miss him greatly. He is preceded in death by his daughter Melissa Kay Staten, his mother Jane and father Al, his sisters Connie Charles and Maralynn Twinning, and his brother Rick Harvey.

To celebrate his life, a visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home 8815 Cincinnati Columbus Road in Pisgah, Ohio on Monday, November 2nd from 11:15- 1:15 with burial and prayers at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mason immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to either Hospice of Cincinnati or City of Mason's Parks Foundation.

Dick's family would like to express their gratitude for your presence and support during this difficult time.
