Janet was a beloved Mom, Gram, GG, sister, and friend. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the love she poured into the lives of those around her. Remember her for her warmth, kindness, and the genuine care she showed to everyone she encountered.
She was the loving mother and mother-in-law of Mark and Carol, Mike and Nancy, Pete and Sue, and Pat and Pam. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren and spouses, and a cherished GG to a growing generation.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John “Jack” Grimes, with whom she built a life centered on family, faith, and love, and together they raised four sons, establishing a close-knit family whose love and traditions will continue for generations.
In addition to her dear sister Nancy Dornseifer, Janet is survived by many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Ron (Mary) and Sonny (Shirley), her sister Eileen (Bert), and her brother-in-law Ed (Nancy).
She found happiness in the camaraderie of her cherished circles of friends. From her early days as a cherished member of “The Gang,” to her monthly bridge group of devoted card players for over fifty years, along with her golf partners and her St. Vivian community, Jan lived a life rich in friendship, connection, and activity.
Later in life, Janet found great joy and companionship with her dear friend, John Strohbach. Together they created many treasured memories and traveled the world to incredible, beautiful places.
Janet had a heart for serving others. She dedicated time and care to the communities at Roger Bacon High School and Xavier University. She was an enthusiastic fan of Xavier Musketeers basketball, rarely missing a chance to cheer them on.
Above all, Janet’s legacy is one of love. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for (as demonstrated by her never ending supply of chocolate chip cookies and M&Ms). Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and unwavering kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Friday March 27, 2026 at St. Vivian Church, 7600 Winton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45224 from 9:30 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
