In Loving Memory of Joe Richard Ball August 31, 1940 — June 30, 2025
Joe Richard Ball, age 84, passed away on June 30, 2025 with his family by his side.
Born on August 31, 1940, in Whitley City, Kentucky. Joe was the beloved son of the late Hollis and Wilhelmina Ball.
Joe graduated from McCreary County High School in 1958. He went on to study at Cumberland Bible School.
As devoted husband & father, Joe's greatest joy in life was his wife of 62 years, Stella Mae Ball (nee Waters) & their two boys, Jeffrey Wayne Ball & Brian Edward Ball. He poured his heart into their lives and stood as a steady presence of love, strength, and support. Joe was a proud grandfather to Teresa (Mike) Durbrow & Justin Ball. He was also blessed with great-grandson, Mason Durbrow.
Joe is survived by his loving wife - Stella Mae Ball, their sons - Jeffrey Ball & Brian Ball, Granddaughter - Teresa (Mike) Durbrow, Grandson - Justin Ball, Great Grandson - Mason Durbrow, two sisters - Mary Jane (Jim) Allen (nee Ball) & Nancy Sampson (nee Ball) & other family.
Joe will be reunited in heaven with his parents, Hollis & Wilhelmina Ball, Brother - Jack Ball, & many other family members.
Joe was a man of God. He served as a Deacon of Charity United Baptist Church as well as a Song Leader & Sunday School Teacher. After serving God, Joe’s family was top priority. He would drop everything he was doing to be of service and support for each of them. Joe retired early to spend time with his wife & family. He enjoyed deer hunting with his eldest son, Jeff and watching sports with his youngest son, Brian. Joe also frequented Pine Hill Park where he would fish with his wife. He became a master at casting as he would always cast Stella’s fishing pole so she could catch the biggest fish. After his family, he was a man that stood for people in his community. He served as a Member of the Citizens Police Academy for The City of Mason for many years. Joe was a true handy man. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix and others in the community knew that as well as they would often stop by to ask Joe for help!
Joe’s legacy is one of quiet strength, unconditional love, and a life well lived in service of those he cared for most. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he gave will live on with each of us forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donation to be made to the Dementia Society of America.
