John Howard Gilligan, age 95, beloved husband of Mildred Greene Gilligan, devoted uncle of Sharon Gilligan (Gary) Sadler and Janet Gilligan (the late Terry) Abaray, and great nephews and nieces Michael (Leah) Sadler, Daniel (Jessica) Sadler, Julie (Kent) McCullough and John (Ashley) Abaray. Survived by Millie’s loving daughters Becky (Phil) Pike and Sharon (Brian) Oberschlake, grandchildren Billy (Megan) Oberschlake, Cody (Amelia) Oberschlake, Ben (Ashley) Pike, Emily (Austin) Bourne, Bethany (Zach) Gollwitzer and seven great grandsons.
John was preceded in death by his loving brother, Harry Edward Gilligan. John began his career as a linotype operator, joining the Cincinnati Enquirer in 1958. He ultimately served as the Enquirer’s systems manager, where he led the paper’s transition to computerized production operations. After retiring from the Enquirer, he became a long time volunteer with the Mariemont Players, where he worked as an usher and on scenery and sets. He also volunteered for many years at Long Branch Farm.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m, at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, Liberty Township, Ohio 45044.
