John Clifford Walkenhorst

August 21, 1950 — November 16, 2022

John C. Walkenhorst, beloved husband of 49 years to Mary Ann Walkenhorst (nee Brinker), loving father of Nick Walkenhorst and Julie (Mike) Beckner, caring grandfather of William and Madelyn Beckner and Colin Walkenhorst. Brother of Steve (Barb) Walkenhorst. Brother-in-law of Joanne (the late Gregg) Brinkdoepke, Connie (the late Joe) Brinker, Kitty (Mike) Pope, Ray (Meg) Brinker, Tim (Patti) Brinker and Patty (Dan) Distler. Also loved by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Passed away November 16, 2022, at the age of 72.

John was the first born son of Cliff and (Sweet) Jennie Walkenhorst, and dear brother of Steve. He and Mary Ann dated for five years and, before they married, John worked many nights on the dock at the Enquirer in downtown Cincinnati to help pay for college expenses. After graduating and starting his accounting career, he and Mary Ann were married. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Nick and Julie. He was a great husband and dad, and had many dear friends near and far. He was a proud PawPaw of three grandchildren, William, Madelyn, and Colin. He loved it when his children and grandchildren came to visit. John loved Cincinnati sports (Bearcats, Bengals, and Reds), softball, golf, and tennis, and was quite an athlete in his younger days. He had a great sense of humor, fantastic long-term memory, and was always a gentle and kind man.

John had a long journey with Parkinson’s Disease (13 years) along with his past cancers that he survived with during the past 25 years. He has suffered more than you know, but never complained and was always stoic. He enjoyed many different bands and singers, but he passed away peacefully and quietly with Mary Ann at his side, listening to one of his favorite songs by Jimmy Buffett.

A private cemetery service will be held by the immediate family. We will honor John with a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, January 7, 2023. It will be an Open House from 1-5 pm in the Multi Purpose Room at Faith Bible Church, 8130 East Kemper Rd., Cincinnati OH 45249. We invite all friends and family to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Support and Wellness, Hospice of Cincinnati, J.D.R.F. or American Cancer Society.
