On June 25, 2026, Juanita King (née Schnieders) left this world peacefully at PineBrook of Milford, surrounded by love and cherished memories. Born August 16, 1947, in Cincinnati, she lived every day with warmth, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Juanita’s life was a radiant celebration of joy, kindness, and dedication to those she loved. She was the beloved wife and partner to Jim C. King for 59 amazing years, with whom she shared an extraordinary bond. Together, they were inseparable, sharing adventures, traveling to the beach, and savoring the thrill of a slot machine spin—hours would slip away, and they’d laugh together, earning points for a free dinner and a few extra stories to reminisce about later. Their togetherness was a testament to true companionship.
As a mother, Juanita devoted herself to her daughters, Shelly (Jimmy) Smith and Rachel (Joe) Ashley. Motherhood was her dream and the heart of her world. She eagerly took on each moment—volunteering for field trips, working in the school cafeteria, engaging in PTO activities—always present, always supportive. She inspired her daughters with her humor, her bright outlook, and her insistence that no snowy hill was too high if it meant preparing them for life’s drives, both literal and figurative. Both Shelly and Rachel learned to drive by conquering the snowiest Cincinnati hills, with their mother by their side, never letting a flake go uncelebrated.
Her deep faith guided her daily life. A devoted Catholic, Juanita raised her daughters in the church, served in the women’s group, helped organize festivals, and found special purpose in distributing communion. She gave generously of her time and spirit, touching countless lives through her involvement and kindness.
Juanita’s creativity was showcased in each beautiful wreath, flower arrangement, pine cone and sea shell decoration she crafted. Her love of cooking was legendary among family and friends; she was famous for offering “to-go” containers, ensuring that everyone felt included and cared for long after a meal together. Chocolate and ice cream, always found at home, were little reminders of her sweet and comforting presence.
Time spent at the beach was deeply treasured by Juanita. Sitting quietly with her chair at the edge of the water, listening to the waves and searching for seashells, she found peace and wonder in the simple, natural beauty of the shoreline. Her favorite season was Christmas, and she filled her home with festive decorations, joyful music, and the warmth of togetherness. No holiday snowstorm could keep her inside—she was always ready for a trip to Kroger as an excuse to drive in the snow.
Family was Juanita’s greatest treasure. She adored her granddaughter, Brenna Ashley, cherishing every laugh, smile, and special moment together. Though she mourned the loss of her grandsons, Adam, Bryan, and Cooper Ashley, her love for them remained unwavering—a quiet, steadfast part of her heart.
She was preceded in death by her loving father, Omer Schnieders, her loving mother, Amelia Schnieders Bortlein, her loving stepfather, Frank Bortlein, and her sister, Carole Buck. Their memories endured in her stories, her laughter, and the deep-rooted values she lived each day.
To the world, Juanita never knew a stranger. Her ever-present smile, infectious laughter, and sparkling outlook on life made everyone feel welcome and loved. She found humor in every situation and always looked for the silver lining, inspiring her family and friends to do the same.
Juanita’s legacy lives on in her husband Jim, her daughters Shelly and Rachel, her beloved granddaughter Brenna, and all who had the joy of knowing her. Her spirit remains a shining example of love, resilience, and compassion.
Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Juanita’s remarkable life on July 1, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 2014 Springdale Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45231. A Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m., also at Corpus Christi.
