Kathy McNally (nee Burtschy), a loving mother, caring sister, and beloved wife to John McNally III, passed on January 1, 2026. Born August 23rd, 1965, daughter of the late Jackie and Ed ‘Moe’ Burtschy - she created a life of love and care for all that she met but a special love for her children Johnny, Shane, Abbey and Kiley and husband John. She was the oldest sister of Mike, Chris, Tim and Mary Beth Burtschy.
Niece to Tim Heffernan, she also had many nieces and nephews of her own who loved her: Ava, Lauren, Colin Burtschy and Dani Krauser; Karleigh Harris, Karter Reynolds, Peyton and Rowdy Brown; Tim and Cassie McNally; Verona, Izzy Schaffner and Ashton Duke. Kathy was also a mother-in-law to Sarah, wife of Shane.
Graduate of Franklin and NKU with a degree in Nursing, she spent her entire career in the field making stops all over, but a majority spent with Deaconess Hospital and UC Health where she made lifelong friends and memories with her outgoing and charismatic personality. It made perfect sense that she chose the nursing profession because of how much she cared for everyone she met.
Known for never knowing a stranger, Kathy always lit up any room she was in. She could be anywhere in the world and find someone that she knows - leaving an unforgettable memory to all that she met and loved. Kathy was also a great athlete passing on those genes to her children, she enjoyed playing softball with friends who still stay in touch to this day. Kathy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, wherever that may have been. She also loved taking time away in Florida, boating, margaritas and Mexican food - but most important to her was taking in her children’s sporting events and accomplishments, whom she loved to brag about when asked. She ended each day watching a Hallmark movie or one of her many shows. The countless memories of the camping trips to Gatlinburg, every travel tournament for her children, and motorcycle or lake trips with her husband and friends. Kathy just loved being around family and friends and being outdoors.
Kathy was a leader who everyone would gravitate to – known for her incredible personality, perfectly timed humor, and great care of her loved ones. She played many more roles than mother, wife and sister - she was a therapist, she was a caregiver, a great friend and she was the life of the party.
A loving mother, caring sister, a beloved wife - Kathy’s loving heart and open personality made her the rock of the family, who all her children look up to and adore. Kathy leaves an immeasurable legacy of great love and joy to everyone she ever met.
