Kathryn Barbara Hinkle, a beloved educator, devoted volunteer, and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving children. Born Kathryn Barbara Naegele on August 16, 1931, in Covington, Kentucky, she welcomed a life full of love, learning, and service.
Kathryn's journey was marked by a profound dedication to education and community. She proudly graduated from Bellevue High School in 1950 and went on to earn her teaching degree from the University of Cincinnati’s Teacher's College in 1961. Her passion for nurturing young minds was evident from her early career in Dayton, Kentucky in 1959 and blossomed further during her long tenure at Taylor Elementary, where she taught from 1971 to 1995. Beyond the classroom, Kathryn found joy and fulfillment in tutoring elementary students and giving over two decades of volunteer service at Mercy Hospital in Mt. Airy, a commitment that stood as a testament to her compassionate spirit.
Kathryn was much more than an educator; she was a woman of kindness, generosity, and warmth. Her humor and love brought light to those around her. Those close to her remember a woman who delighted in the color purple, butterflies fluttering gently in the breeze, and the melodies of music—a soundtrack to her many travels and a faithful companion throughout her lifelong journey as a learner and adventurer. Among her greatest joys was following the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, with whom she shared a deep and unwavering bond.
She leaves behind a loving family who carries forward her legacy of love and sincerity. Survived by her daughters Kathee Kunke and Barbie Schulien, along with their husbands, Steve Kunke and John Schulien; her daughter Janet Womack; and her son Mark Hinkle, with his wife Linda, Kathryn's family remains a testament to her enduring influence. Her grandchildren—Jessica Schulien, Matt Schulien (wife Allison), Rian Kunke (husband Cassidy), Taylor Kunke (wife Nicole), Anna Hinkle, and Eli Hinkle—were her pride and joy, as were her great-grandchildren: Devin Rosella, Grace Schulien, Madelyn Schulien, and Clara Schulien.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her beloved parents Edward and Mildred Naegele, her sister Milmary Faust, and brother-in-law Tommy Faust.
In remembering Kathryn Barbara Hinkle, we honor a woman whose gentle spirit and steadfast dedication touched countless lives. Her legacy is a tapestry woven with kindness, laughter, and an enduring love for family and community. Though she has departed this world, the impact of her life will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate to know her.
A memorial service will be held June 18th at 11:00 in the Chesterwood Village chapel located at 8073 Tylersville Road, West Chester.
