Kenneth N. Hennel, affectionately known as Ken, "The Fat Man" Hennel, was born on January 9, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He passed away peacefully at his home in Cincinnati on November 4, 2025. Ken’s life was characterized by his unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community, and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

A proud veteran, Ken served his country with distinction in the Vietnam War as a member of the Army Infantry unit, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Purple Heart for his valor. His commitment did not end with his military service; throughout his life, he was a steadfast supporter of all veterans, embodying the spirit of loyalty and service. He was treated for a long time at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, where you could find him joking and smiling with all the doctors and nurses that truly seemed to love and enjoy him as their patient.

Ken was a longtime pipefitter and welder at Emery, a career that not only showcased his remarkable skills but also reflected his hands-on approach to life. He was a graduate of Roger Bacon High School in St. Bernard and took great pride in the accomplishments he achieved throughout his life.

Known for his kindness, contagious happiness, and a welcoming demeanor, Ken was boisterous and friendly. He had a genuine desire to help others, a trait that won him countless friends and admirers. He was described as a loyal individual who always put God and family first. His love for family was evident in the moments he cherished with them, especially making memories with his grandchildren and participating in family gatherings.

Ken was a devoted father to Bryan (Heather) Hennel and Lori (Phillip) Kinne. He was also a proud grandfather to Bryan Hennel Jr., April Hennel, Hunter (Kalei) Hennel, Lindsay Kinne, and Ellie Kinne, and great-grandfather to Madelyn, Luna, Leon, and Henry. His love and affection for his family were palpable, and he frequently engaged in activities that brought everyone together, including creating his legendary Christmas light displays and his beloved Flying Santa, which still flies, now at his daughter Lori's home, each holiday season.

Ken's hobbies included spending time at the casino and taking on welding projects, which included contributions to "Ken's Kitchen" at community festivals and endeavors that benefited his local community. His notable contributions to the Mt. Healthy Haunted Hall and Assumption Festival remain a testament to his commitment to enriching the lives of those around him.

Surviving are his brother, Ron (Mary) Hennel, and the extended family of his late wife, Linda Stegeman Hennel, including her brothers and sisters: George & Gail Stegeman, Bob and MaryEllen Stegeman, Helen (Snook) and Chuck Lawrence, Karen and Charlie Hake, Kathy and Dan Stark, Barb Rolf, and Judy Driscoll. Ken is predeceased by his beloved wife, Linda Marie Stegeman Hennel, his parents, Norman and Clara (Sterwerf) Hennel, and his brother-in-law, Tim Driscoll.

Ken Hennel’s legacy of love, sense of humor, and service will forever be cherished by his family, countless friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He brought joy and light into the lives of many, leaving indelible memories and a profound sense of community in his wake. He will be remembered for his card playing talents, generosity of spirit and his unwavering love for his family.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025 at Assumption Church in Mt. Healthy, OH. Visitation will be in the Assumption Parish Center from 9am until 11am, with his Funeral Mass to follow in the Church. He will be laid to rest immediately following the Mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Bernard.
