Obituary

Larry Edward McAtee, age 85, of West Chester, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026, at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash following a brief illness. He was surrounded by the love of his family, with his daughter Lari, sister Doris, and Robyn by his side.

Larry was born on December 16, 1940, in Falmouth, Kentucky, to Herbert and Chloe McAtee. A graduate of Falmouth High School, Larry carried throughout his life the values of hard work, integrity, kindness, and faith that were instilled in him from an early age.

In the fall of 1962, Larry met the love of his life, Joyce Allen. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on December 29, 1962, and together built a loving home and family with their two daughters, Denita and Lari. Larry and Joyce were devoted members of Immanuel Baptist Church for more than forty years, faithfully serving their church family and community.

Larry dedicated over thirty years of service to Avon Products, where he formed many lifelong friendships. He also enjoyed selling real estate on the side. Following his retirement from Avon, Larry found great satisfaction working in retail jewelry sales, where his warm personality and gift for conversation helped him connect with customers and colleagues alike.

A gifted artist and craftsman, Larry had a lifelong passion for creativity. Whether painting, woodworking, embroidery, needlework, or other artistic pursuits, he found joy in creating beautiful things with his hands. His patience, attention to detail, and artistic talents were admired by everyone who knew him.

After 42 years of marriage, Larry experienced the heartbreaking loss of Joyce, who passed away on their wedding anniversary, December 29, 2003. He was blessed to find love again when he married Phyllis Farmer on July 12, 2004. Having worked together at Avon for many years, Larry and Phyllis shared a special bond and built a wonderful life together. They were faithful members of Serenity Baptist Church, where they worshiped and served alongside their church family for many years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis McAtee; daughters, Denita (Danny) Stephens and Lari (Howie) Neal; grandchildren Joy, Jeffrey (Leslie), Andrew (Sarah), Matthew (Maddie), Jillian (Charlie), Shawn, Devin, and Reuben (Nicole); great-grandchildren Chloe, Jayna, J, Gavin, and Mario; sister Doris McAtee; brother Gary Godman I.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce McAtee; his grandparents, Mark and Flora McAtee; his parents,Herbert and Chloe McAtee; his stepfather, Wadsworth Godman; and his sister, Jo Ann (Bob) Quick.

Larry will be remembered for his unwavering faith, artistic talents, strong work ethic, and enduring love for Jesus.
