Austing, Lawrence Budde
He was the loving husband of the late Jane (nee Sacksteder) Austing for 69 years and
the father of Cathy (Bill) Herring, Gail (late Don) Barker, Ren (Elisa) Austing and Chris (Mary
Pat) Austing. He was the grandfather of Elizabeth Schutte, Sarah and Bridget Herring, Kristen,
Megan and Kyle Barker, Carmen Current, and Langley, Christopher and Marty Austing and
great grandfather to fourteen.
Born July 30, 1925, he was the son of Lawrence Joseph and
Alma ( nee Budde) Austing and the brother of Richard Austing, all of whom preceded him in
death. He is survived by his sister-in-law Mary Ann Austing. Larry died on 11/9/23 of natural
causes.
In his 98 years on earth he made many contributions. He served in the Army Air Force during
World War II, after which he graduated from Xavier University, ultimately earning his MBA. He
spent the majority of his working years at Vulcan Corporation working his way up to become its
President. After leaving Vulcan he reinvented himself by buying Precision Industries, a tool and
die company of three employees, that spawned PDI Communications Systems and collectively
grew to over 120 employees by his retirement at age 62. He relished retirement, becoming an
outstanding wood carver and golf enthusiast. He had many close lifelong friends and continued
to make new friends in the communities he inhabited. These included College Hill, Saint Clare
Parish, Isla Del Sol in St Petersburg FL, and later at Ohio Living Llanfair.
It was there that he developed a special friendship with Mary Grace Coddington, who enriched the last years of his
life. He loved family, God and all things Cincinnati ( except when XU played UC, then he was
XU all the way!). He aged with grace, providing a wonderful role model. Larry will be
remembered most by his children for his generosity, and his acceptance and gratitude for all
that life had to offer.
