Lawrence B. Lamping

Lawrence B. Lamping “Larry” of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on May 1, 2026 at the age of 89.

He was the eldest of nine children born to Lawrence A. and Hilda R. (nee Fritsch) Lamping on September 22, 1936.

Growing up in Norwood, he attended St. Elizabeth elementary and Purcell high school. He served a four year term in the Air Force as a draftsman before pursuing a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Cincinnati.

After working at his children’s “dream job” designing toys and bringing home prototypes from Kenner Toys, he dedicated the next 45 years to Superior Janitor Supply (a family business started by his father-in-law Ben Ruwe). He spent many hours as co-CEO and CEO until his retirement in 2015.

He was a devoted husband to his late wife of 50 years Gail A. (nee Ruwe) and loving father to Greg (Patricia), Lisa (Greg) Risch, Lori, (Pete) Messinger, John (Ann), and Mike (deceased).

He was an awesome grandpa to Mariana (Josh) Lukas, Rebecca (Stephen) Schmidt, and Joseph Lamping; Mindy Roark (Tim Wissel), Tim (Jennifer) Roark; Adam and Emily Lamping; great grandpa to Hayden, Ava, and Remi Schmidt; Elizabeth and Alexandra Roark.

Larry was blessed for the last 15 years to have the companionship and love of Joyce Bender. Together they shared their love of travel and golf, playing golf on nearly every continent. He also cherished Joyce‘s children Tracy Bender and Jeff Bender, and Joyce’s grandchildren and great grandchildren like his own.

Larry was loved, admired, and respected by so many family and friends. He lives in our hearts forever.

Visitation at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6041 Hamilton Ave., College Hill, Thursday, May 7, 5-7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial St. Clare Church, 1443 Cedar Ave., College Hill, Friday, May 8, 10 a.m. followed by Rite of Committal at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. After the committal, a celebration of life reception will be held at St. Clare Church’s undercroft.
