Obituary

Louis John Santoro

March 10, 1946 – October 13, 2026

Louis John “Lou” Santoro, age 80, passed away on October 13, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, laughter, love, and friendships that spanned generations.

Born on March 10, 1946, Lou was the son of the late Carmen Santoro and Jeanette Speller Santoro. A proud graduate of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, Lou went on to attend Xavier University, where he played football. He also proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army.

Lou had a larger-than-life personality and a remarkable ability to light up any room he entered. Outgoing, quick-witted, and blessed with an unforgettable sense of humor, he was truly the life of the party. He never knew a stranger and had a special gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and loved. Whether sharing a story, cracking a joke, or simply enjoying the company of others, Lou made every gathering a little more memorable.

Friendship was one of the great joys of Lou’s life. He treasured the lifelong bonds he formed during his childhood, especially with his beloved group of friends known as the ABA. These friendships stood the test of time and were a testament to his loyalty, warmth, and genuine love for the people in his life.

Lou especially loved spending his winters in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed the sunshine, boating, and time spent with family and friends. He cherished family vacations, making memories, and bringing everyone together. Nothing brought him greater pride than his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted father and grandfather who loved supporting his grandchildren in their many activities, always taking a genuine interest in their lives and accomplishments.

Lou is survived by his loving wife, Jane McGinnis McCarthy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Gilhart Santoro.

He was the proud father of Kim Santoro Schaffner (Scott), John Santoro (Carrie), and Julie Ramstein (Jason).

His legacy continues through his ten cherished grandchildren: Ali, Colin, Reese and Dylan Carpenter; Ian, Marlo and Finley Santoro; Jake, Knox and Miller Ramstein.

Lou is also survived by his brothers, Mark Santoro (Lisa) and Bruce Santoro (Patti). He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Santoro.

Lou lived his life with a generous heart, an infectious sense of humor, and an appreciation for the people who surrounded him. He believed in enjoying life's moments, celebrating with those he loved, and never missing an opportunity to share a laugh.

While his family and friends will deeply miss his unmistakable personality, his stories, and the joy he brought to every occasion, they will forever carry the memories of a man who made life more fun simply by being part of it.

Lou will be remembered for the laughter he inspired, the friendships he treasured, the family he adored, and the love he leaves behind.

His was a life well lived, a heart well loved, and a legacy that will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 20, 2026 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 9080 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, West Chester, OH 45069 from 10:00 AM until Mass of Chrisitan Burial at 11:00 AM.
