Lowell Truman Flint

Lowell Truman Flint, age 87, died January 10, 2023, at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash, Ohio.
He was born July 13, 1935 in Lagrange County, Indiana, to Birdena Clara Flint (nee Healey)
and Truman Sutton Flint. Lowell grew up on his parents’ farm outside Wolcottville; he graduated
from Wolcottville High School in 1953. He took courses in agriculture at Purdue University,
before leaving the farm he loved to study religion.

In 1959 Lowell earned a baccalaureate degree in religion from Marion College (Indiana
Wesleyan University) in Indiana. At Marion, he met Doris Pearl Mitchell, the love of his life; they
married in August 1956. Lowell pastored his first church while a student, traveling with Doris
each weekend to Long (Ohio) Wesleyan Methodist Church (1958-1959). After graduation,
Lowell pastored Wesleyan Methodist churches in Bennettsville, South Carolina (1959-1963),
and in Greensboro (1963-71), Raleigh (1972-73), and Rose Hill (1973) North Carolina.

While pastoring in Greensboro, Lowell taught religion at John Wesley College, then earned a
master’s degree in education from University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1971. Lowell
earned doctorate in education from Duke University in 1973, then taught religion and
psychology at Olivet Nazarene University (1973-1982), and educational psychology at Mt. Saint
Joseph University (1983-2000).

Lowell and Doris joined West Chester church of the Nazarene in 1983. Lowell served the church
as Sunday School teacher, Minister of Visitation, Family Counseling and Learning Center
director, and most recently as their treasurer/bookkeeper.  

Lowell was preceded in death by Doris in March 2022. He was preceded in death by his
parents, brother Herman Flint, sister Elsie Flint Meyers, great granddaughters Emily Claire Stipp
and Evaleigh Claire Combs, and Wendy Waters who he loved as a granddaughter.

Lowell is survived by his brother Orvin (Mary Ellen) Flint, sister Mildred Flint Braunagel, and
brother-in-law Leon (Verna) Mitchell. Lowell is survived by his three daughters (“the Flint girls”),
Karen (Mike) Stipp, Kathy (Staycie) Flint and Lisa (John) Waters. Lowell is survived by eight
grandchildren, Brian (Elizabeth) Stipp, Amy (Stephen) Chiu, Carolyn (Rashad) Khaddaj, Bryce
Flint, Angelica Flint, Katherine (Rodney) Morsie, Brittany (Derek) Smith and Alex (Laura)
Waters. Lowell is survived by 15 great-grandchildren, Isaac Stipp, Suzanna Stipp, Elijah Stipp,
Rozalie Stipp, Beatriz Stipp, Marigold Stipp, Timothy Chiu, Joshua Chiu, Karina Chiu, Oliver
Khaddaj, Marie Morsie, Ava Morsie, Lemuel Combs, Jasper Combs and Willoughby Combs.

Funeral visitation will be Monday January 16 at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:30 AM,
West Chester Church of the Nazarene, 7951 Tylersville Road, West Chester, Ohio 45069. Rev.
Alex Mahaffey and Rev. Dr. Robert Mahaffey will officiate. Interment will follow at Rest Haven
Memorial Park in Blue Ash, Ohio. Memorials or donations may be made to West Chester
Church of the Nazarene’s Compassion Fund.
