Lowell Merkle

Lowell William Merkle, (Lonnie) 83, of Union, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022.  Born June 15, 1939 in Cincinnati, OH.  Son of the late William and Erna (Wickard) Merkle.  Survived by his loving sisters Mitzi (Charlie) Back and Carol (late Roy) Riley.  Dear brother of late Mark (Lois) Merkle and Dan Merkle. Lowell will be dearly missed by those who knew him.  A prayer warrior at heart, a loving and devoted brother, uncle and friend. Formerly an employee of the Kroger Company, he was known as a hard worker and always willing to lend a helping hand and kind word. Through the years Lowell enjoyed gardening, a passion for artisanship and making friends wherever he went. He fashioned a creative array of model airplanes and rocking chairs from wooden clothes pins and pop sickle sticks painted in beautiful colors. Known as a kindhearted and generous man, Lowell gifted his creations to fellow retirement community residents, caretakers, family, friends and strangers alike; with the goal of making them smile. A friend to many, Lowell was a ray of sunshine to those at the retirement community; visited by folks for prayer, an encouraging word, witty conversation or a beautiful song. Funeral services will be held at the Hodapp Funeral Homes 7401 Vine St. Cincinnati, OH 45216, Thursday from 10AM until 11AM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the St. Elizabeth Foundation, Edgewood, KY.
