Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Luther Vanover, who entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on May 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Luther courageously battled advanced kidney disease for several years with remarkable strength, determination, and unwavering faith. Although dialysis had long been anticipated as part of his journey, his condition declined rapidly in recent weeks. Following surgery, an ICU stay, and multiple dialysis treatments, his family experienced moments of hope as he fought valiantly to recover. Sadly, complications became too great, and after a hard-fought battle, he passed into eternal rest.

Luther was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, faithful friend, decorated Vietnam veteran, and man of deep Christian faith. He loved his family wholeheartedly and found great joy in spending time with those he loved most. He was an active member of his church and enjoyed building and repairing things, woodworking, flying remote-controlled airplanes, camping, traveling, feeding the birds, and serving as the family's trusted handyman. He especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren and took great pride in showing off his beloved Factory Five Cobra.

One of the greatest blessings of his final months was sharing precious time with family, including a memorable trip to Disney and the opportunity to help baptize his daughter just weeks before his passing. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering and is now at peace.

Luther is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne Vanover; his daughter, LaKristian "Kristy" Altherr; son-in-law, Jason Altherr; grandsons, Dominic Altherr, Callen Altherr, and Grayson Altherr; granddaughter, Kensi Altherr; as well as many cherished brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Vanover; his mother, Earline Holbert; his stepfather, Reese Holbert; his sister, Billie May Vanover; his brother, Billie Earl Vanover, Sr.; and his brother, Mike Holbert.

Luther's absence leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew and loved him, but his legacy of faith, love, generosity, and devotion to family will continue to live on through all whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Center Pointe Church, 5962 Hamilton Mason Road, Liberty Township, Ohio 45011. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Christians in Action, an organization he greatly admired and hoped to support more actively, but was limited by his declining health. Their giving page is https://www.cialiberty.org/

The Vanover family is deeply grateful for the prayers, love, and support received during this difficult time.

Forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
