Cincinnati

BURKE, Marilyn A. (née Gaede). Beloved wife of 60 years to the late Patrick T. Burke. Loving mother of Kelly, Molly and Patrick (Mia) Burke. Cherished grandmother of John, Marie, Marilyn, and Michael Kaine; Emily (Christian) Bruns, Maylen (Noah) Jahn, Brenna (Dominic) Saturday, and Matthew (Amanda) Schlager; and Jane and Patrick Burke II. Proud great-grandmother of Rose, Quinn, and Benjamin Bruns; Noah Jahn; and Theodore Saturday. Marilyn was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mildred (née Fairbanks) Gaede and the sister of the late Lawrence Gaede, Carolyn Gaede, and Elizabeth Fairbanks Badinghaus. A graduate of Regina High School, Marilyn began her career in the business office of Cincinnati Bell Telephone, where she worked in several roles over 16 years. During that time, she also frequently modeled for photographs featured in the company’s publications. She traveled broadly before marrying the boy she first met in fifth grade. Marilyn devoted herself to her family as a loving wife, steadfast mother, and impressive homemaker. She generously volunteered her time at St. Vivian Church as a school cafeteria helper, church cleaner, and caretaker of the servers’ vestments. She was also an active member of the Ladies Sodality and enjoyed the camaraderie of participating on P&G’s Sweat Panel fundraiser for St. Vivian. After raising her three children, Marilyn spent countless hours helping them raise their own families. She was always ready with advice, support, or babysitting whenever needed. And when she babysat, the laundry often got done, too. Though she appreciated an afternoon nap, she rarely sat still otherwise. That changed only after she and Patrick moved from the home they had shared for 54 years, when she retired from the work of homemaking and allowed her sweetheart to care for her. Marilyn passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026 at age 94. Visitation will be held at St. Vivian Church, 7600 Winton Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45224, on Thursday June 4, 2026 from 9 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to St. Vivian Church or to the Parkinson’s nonprofit of your choice. Condolences at hodappfuneralhome.com
