Myrla Kay Chalk, known affectionately as Mimi, left us on November 12, 2025, at the age of 82, while residing at Winfield of Middletown, Ohio. Born on April 1, 1943, in South Lebanon, Ohio, Myrla lived a life rich with love, laughter, and memories. Her journey began in a close-knit family, raised by her parents, Melbourne and Effie Fischer Sullivan, alongside her siblings, including brothers Ivan, Ralph, Kenneth, Roy Lee, Jack, Glenn, and Harold, and sisters Alyce and Gladys.
Myrla's spirit was one of warmth and kindness. As a homemaker, she filled her home with love, acting not just as a mother to her own children but also embracing the role of a second mom to the many 'adopted' neighborhood kids who were fortunate enough to find a place in her heart. Together with her late husband, Lloyd (Butch) Chalk, who preceded her in death, they created a loving environment that fostered joy, connection, and countless cherished memories.
Holidays and birthdays were especially significant to Myrla, as she poured her heart into making each celebration memorable. A family trip to Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary remains a beloved highlight, reflecting her adventurous spirit and zest for life. Her love for her family extended to attending her children's and grandchildren's various school and sporting events, where her support was a constant source of encouragement.
Myrla was a vibrant personality—sweet and caring yet embodying a spunky, firecracker spirit—always dressed with a flair that showcased her inner fashionista. She embraced life with enthusiasm, engaging in hobbies like dancing, bowling nights, ceramics, and crafting. Her passion for cooking brought family members together around the dining table, where meals became special gatherings filled with laughter and stories shared among loved ones.
She is survived by her cherished family: her brother, Marvin Sullivan; her daughters, Kathy Chalk Gabbard and Kim Chalk Alfrey; her son, Lloyd (Bud) Chalk; her son-in-law, Craig Gabbard and daughter-in-law Catalina Chalk; her beloved grandchildren, Ariadna Jimenez, Jesus De Leon, Nathan Alfrey, and Nick Alfrey; as well as her precious great-granddaughters, Sophia, Alexandria, and Betsy De Leon-Jimenez. Myrla's legacy lives on through these family members and numerous dear friends who were touched by her loving nature.
Myrla’s life will be celebrated with a visitation on November 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by a funeral service at Hodapp Funeral Homes in West Chester, Ohio. As we gather to honor her memory, we hold close the loving, fiery spirit that she so generously shared with all who were fortunate enough to know her.
